What happens to a persons brain when they drink too much alcohol and black out?

How is it they are still able to function but not remember what they have done while under the influence? Any ideas on this?

the cerebellum (Lower back part) of the brain shuts down for a moment. It controlls a lot about you. When it shuts down. You black out and bang your head on the bar stool when you’ve a bit too many brews.

It is so dulled from the alcohol that you will never remember what you did, this can be very dangerest, because you could have drove and killed someone and not remembered.
